YouTube is going to ban all comments on any video with children. I suppose if they had an ingrown toenail they'd chop their foot off. Sheesh, this is going to roil a lot of people and it's totally unnecessary. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-47408969

I am OK with that, actually. It just means people link to YouTube from discussion boards and other social sites. I go to YouTube to watch videos, almost never read the comments.

I watch a lot of videos from allotment gardeners in the UK and always read the comments. Some of them have children and sometimes the children appear in the videos. It's a shame that a big tech company can't do better than this sort of blanket prohibition.

For whatever reason, YouTube comments have always been the worst. I don't read them.

I guess it depends what sort of videos one watches. I can't think of any untoward comments on any of the gardening channels I subscribe to. They are often funny, encouraging, enlightening, and educational.

I usually watch music videos, some of them amateur. The comments can be brutal.
