We moved next door to the Mosconi family in Melrose Park in 1957. Emma, Joe, Diane, and Carol. I worshipped Emma. She taught my Mom how to make a killer Sunday gravy.
My Mom *hated* the smell of popcorn and would never make it for me. What I loved Emma most for was that when she was babysitting me if my parents went out she would pop me a big bowl of popcorn.
Emma and my Mom used to sit around and listen to Dean Martin and Sergio Franchi records. I grew up listening to that music and I guess it's gotten baked into my blood...
We had this album. Sergio was devastatingly handsome:

Ah, Dino.
He hailed from Steubenville, Ohio, about 15 miles from where I grew up. Ohio Route 7, the four-lane highway around the edge of town is named Dean Martin Boulevard for the portion within city limits.
He's rumored to have left town because of unpaid gambling debts, but made good after that.

Which reminds me, this one was another one I heard growing up and loved hearing it in Moonstruck!
