Blue wave?
Gawd, I hope so.

quote:
As Republican President Donald Trump seeks a second term in November, Americans' interest in voting is growing faster in large cities dominated by Democrats than in conservative rural areas, according to an analysis of Reuters/Ipsos national opinion polls.

If the trend lasts until Election Day on Nov. 3, it would be a reversal from the 2016 election when rural turnout outpaced voting in urban areas, helping Trump narrowly win the White House.

The finding, based on responses from more than 88,000 U.S. adults who took the online poll from August to December 2015 or from August to December 2019, suggests that the “Blue Wave,” a swell of anti-Trump activism that followed his entry into the White House in 2017, is still rolling across the country's largest population centers.

Blue wave and the best the party has to offer is Bernie.

We’re doomed.

Trump lost the popular vote and narrowly won in three states. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Trump is also a four year known commodity at this point. The economy is very good and he has avoided military adventures as much as possible. He has more support than he did in 2016. I would not look for a blue wave in 2020 after the Democrats dismal performance since 2018.

"dismal performance"

See, that's the sort of thing that annoys me. The plain and simple fact is that the GOP leaders in the senate have simply refused to allow anything the Democrats have proposed come to the floor. There are hundreds of bills from the House (even before it was controlled by the Dems) languishing in McConnell's desk drawer. Congress has passed about 68 laws since 2018. In the same time period under Obama (2013-2014), with a divided Congress, there were over 300 bills passed into law.

And what's sitting in McConnell's graveyard? Bills on election security, background checks, benefits for veterans, prescription drug price reduction, reporting foreign election interference, violence against women act, daca, and minimum wage increases. A short list. Not even coming up for debate.

To say this is due to the Democrat's "dismal performance" is ignoring all this.

How many voters know about these bills? Very, very few. Had the Democrats focused on these efforts rather than continually going after Trump and everything he did they would have looked a lot better and put the heat on the GOP. That's a dismal performance.

McConnell's intransigence has been going on well before impeachment.

Mueller. Kavanaugh. A hundred other 'we've got him NOW!' distractions. Impeachment was just one last pre-doomed hail mary.

It wasn't a Hail Mary. It was never a Hail Mary.

It was going nowhere in the Senate from the start, and everyone knew it.

The House impeached him because he committed impeachable acts. Sometimes, you do what's right, even if there are consequences.

It's called principles. It's a shame there are no Republican Senators (outside of Mitt Romney) who have them.

Actually, that's not fair. They have a principle. It's self-preservation. To use a word, it trumps all else.

True. But whether the economy is "very good" is debatable. And Trump has done nothing to avoid military adventures. In fact, he wants to go to war with Iran.

Did anyone watch "Fringe" a few years ago? Science fiction exploring the idea of parallel universes...

It makes me think of politics today - the world described by people on "the other side" just doesn't match what I see from "over here"...
