Dad served in the Army during the Korean war. He volunteered for the paratroops; while in training a request came down for any soldier who could type...
He became a company clerk and served out his tour in Germany, where my older brother was born.
Once discharged, he turned that page of life and as far as I know, never kept up with anyone in the army. He used the GI bill to go back to college to get his teaching degree.
As young boys are apt to do when young, I was jumping down the stairs from higher and higher when he walked by and taught me how to fall and roll as taught in the paratroops. He told me that if I jumped from high enough, the roll would break my ankles, knees and hips - but might just keep me alive. Thanks dad!
