Someone mentioned 1993 the other day, and I started thinking about what I was doing then. After a couple of minutes I could come up with a specific memory from 1993.

Then I thought, I wonder if I could think of a specific memory from each year of my adulthood?

Here’s me trying:

2018 - March piano party
2017 - walked a 5k with the family on the anniversary of my transplant
2016 - transplant and recovery
2015 - moved to NC
2014 - rented a house in Charleston SC, with sisters and their crews
2013 - retired, moved to Westchester
2012 - Costa Rica with Rachel and the boy
2011 - dad passed away
2010 - the boy took his first step
2009 - birth of baby-nyc
2008 - mom passed away
2007 - hosted big NY piano party when Elena played Carnegie
2006 - weddings in India and Israel
2005 - bought the Bosendorfer
2004 - vacation in Senegal
2003 - spent six weeks in Tokyo for work
2002 - sabbatical in Paris
2001 - got married
2000 - met Rachel
1999 - moved back to NY
1998 - lived in Brazil
1997 - lived in Mexico City
1996 - threw a surprise party for my parents 35th anniversary
1995 - moved to NY the first time
1994 - sister got married
1993 - worked at Apple in Napa Valley, CA
1992 - lived in Mexico
1991 - spent 3 months in London.
1990 - graduated from college, got my first passport

It was easier than I thought, only 2 years stumped me for a bit. It helps that I moved around a lot.

Care to try?

An admirable life.
Not sure I could remember something from each year.
Not sure I want to try to remember something from each year.

It would be interesting to write this in a journal and keep adding as many memories as I can. I'll bet over time you could reconstruct quite a bit of your life this way.

Like the guys in jail that map out every inch of their childhood house in their mind, where everything is, etc.

Hmmm, tough. Let's see what I can come up with:

2018: daughter moved back from Australia
2017: started splitting time between PDX and YVR
2016: new boss, promo at work (not more $$, but more cool stuff to do)
2015: daughter graduated with MSc
2014: son graduated high school, moved to YVR, daughter graduated with BS, moved to BNE (OK, that's 2 things but related)
2013: mother passed away
2012: father passed away
2011: started new job
2010: daughter graduated high school, moved to PDX
2009: family trip to England, France
2008: I got nuthin'

Not much, really. I wonder if it's because I was basically staying at home, doing the routine stuff. Kids were super busy, and my life tended to revolve around them. It's interesting to me how so many of my annual highlights were their accomplishments.

Yeah, I think its really hard to place some 'normal' memory to a year, unless it was last year or something.

I think if I hadn't had so many geographic changes it would have been really hard to do this.

I sort of cheated by saying (for example) 'lived in Mexico' in 1997. But since I know it was 1997 when I lived there, I could come up with any of dozens of memories and know that that was the year they happened. If I had spent 5 years there, it would be that much harder, let alone if I had spent 15 years at the same address.

These would be the biggest memories from each year, I think.
2018 -move to Montana
2017 - finished barn and arena and brought Rico and buddy home and Eeker WINTER Eeker
2016 - move to Maine and Eekerwinter Eeker
2015 - Steve without job and me working at Costco.
2014 - move to Montana
2013 - pottery classes st EOU
2012 - move to Oregon
2011 - move back to Washington
2010 - sabbatical at USAFA
2009 ok, from here, I would have to look at pictures. Except for the big things, like college and vet school and meeting mr Jodi and marriage, and kids, and moving to Idaho, moving to Washington, I have big vacation memories, but can’t remember exact years...

I gave this one a shot. Lord, that's a lot of years.

1983: Graduated from college
1984: Graduated from grad school and took job teaching community college math and physics
1985: My son, aka Muffin's Brother, was born.
1986: This one's a blur. Infant care, adjuncting, pregnant again.
1987: My daughter, aka Muffin's Sister, was born fifteen weeks early. Her life hung in the balance for months and her health hung in the balance for years. Moved to Florida.
1988: Divorced. Took a job as an environmental consultant.
1989: I had two children in diapers and a full-time job, so this one's a blur.
1990: Remarried.
1991: My father died.
1992: Apparently, mothering school-aged children brings on amnesia. I do remember that I was still working as a consultant and I became the firm's vice-president of marketing at about this time.
1993: Apparently, mothering school-aged children brings on amnesia. I was still consulting and I think this was the first year I served on the board of directors.
1994: Apparently, mothering school-aged children brings on amnesia. I was still consulting and I think this was my second year on the board of directors. It's all a blur.
1995: Muffin was born. Three months later, I had surgery to remove an ovarian cyst that turned out to be larger and associated with more extensive damage than anticipated. A week after that, she had surgery for an infected cyst in her neck, which was scary but turned out okay.
1996: I cut back from full-time environmental consulting to extremely occasional consulting. I fell in my bathroom during a routine bout with a 24-hour stomach bug and acquired undiagnosed damage to my spine and jaws that will eventually result in surgery to both.
1997: I started a children's music program at our church, ultimately serving as youth music director for six years.
1998: I finished a novel that got me a Manhattan agent and attention from Hollywood, but no sale. Years later, I self-published the book. I still have the agent.
1999: My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. After her treatment was finished, I took her on a cruise to Greece, Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, and to a total solar eclipse in the middle of the Black Sea.
2000: My husband and I took a 10-year anniversary trip to Hawaii.
2001: Apparently, mothering school-aged children brings on amnesia.
2002: My husband and I took Muffin's Brother and Sister to Italy and Greece, while Muffin stayed behind, playing cards and pool with my mother.
2003: My first book was published.
2004: I bought the Yamaha C7 and discovered this place.
2005: My second book was published. I had surgery to fuse two vertebrae and another surgery to repair both jaws.
2006: I had a health crisis while coming home from a trip to Italy that culminated in surgery, pancreatitis, and eleven days in the hospital.
2007: I left my husband. My third book was published.
2008: My divorce was final and my fourth book was published. First grandchild, Stud Muffin, was born.
2009: My mother's health was failing and my fifth book was published.
2010: My mother died and my sixth book was published.
2011: Second grandchild, Princess Cooky, was born.
2012: My seventh book was published. My third grandchild, Beefcake, was born.
2013: Began dating Quirt. Left Florida after a quarter-century and moved to New Jersey for grad school. In what was perhaps an omen, heavy snows began the day after the moving van left me there.
2014: Taught English Comp and attended class by day. Wrote ninth book by night. Saw Quirt when I could. Eighth book was published. My fourth grandchild, Short Stack, was born.
2015: Finished grad school and took a job at the University of Oklahoma. Ninth book was published.
2016: This one's a blur. Quirt and I commuted. I worked myself into a bloody pulp with new class preps and a new book. There's probably more...
2017: Married Quirt. Tenth book was published.
2018: Eleventh book was published.
2019: Who knows? Achieve Level 40 on Pokemon Go?
