I just sold an old typewriter to a woman whose daughter wants one for her birthday. I guess there is some show where the young protagonist uses a manual typewriter and kids have become fascinated with the concept.

Why do I bring up a craigslist sale? Well....

Stacy works in acquisitions at the Field Museum, and I passed this article along to her because I thought it might be of interest. I felt much better about never having heard of Zelia when Stacy said she, too, was unfamiliar with her work.

What a fabulous story! I need to finish it later; I have to get ready to teach a class. But I want to make sure Mary Anna sees this. Faye’s predecessor indeed.

Cool! I'd never heard of her, either.

What a fascinating woman!

I read that article earlier this week (I receive the Smithsonian magazine as a perk to our membership in a local history center). I thought she seemed to make great achievements in a field that didn't necessarily welcome women in that era.
