We've all heard plenty about the death of Brionna Taylor.

Well, the NYT put together an 18-minute re-enactment based on all of the available evidence. It is really excellent. There are aspects of it I hadn't fully understood, and this video made it clear.

I urge everyone to watch the video to better understand why folks are so upset. Don't worry -- it's not gory or anything.

That seemed like a very exhaustive reconstruction. It's hard to see any other conclusion besides utter police malpractice that crossed way over the line into criminal behavior.

In the past, when localities would not honorably obey federal orders to eliminate discrimination, whole school districts were stripped of autonomy and placed into a form of receivership until problems were fixed. If only police departments could be removed from local control until efficient and ethical standards were built and enforced.

That sounds like an excellent idea.

How any jurisdiction could think it is a good idea to have both no-knock raids and a castle doctrine is totally beyond me.

Yes, Cindy - I read that account. I was most struck by the graphics showing the angles of the shots, and how random they were. It's one thing to hear that they shot indiscriminately, but it's another to actually see it.

I'm not at all surprised that the guy who wandered around to the front of the apartment and shot through the main window (with ZERO visibility inside) was charged. It wasn't enough, but that was clearly awful.

If I were to bet, I'd say they either didn't announce or announced at the same time they started banging the door down.

I’m a big fan of body cameras. Had the officers been wearing them, I suspect they would have been more likely to announce themselves.
