Face Masks

pianojugglerFace Masks
So, I thought our Governor had mandated that everyone must wear a face mask when in enclosed public places like stores.
Yesterday, I went to Home Despot, a local chain drug store, a local Kroger-owned grocery store, and my credit union outlet to use the ATM.
There was a woman using one of the two ATMs when I got to the credit union. No face mask.
At least half of the customers at the Home Despot were not wearing face masks. All of the employees were, though some of them had them pulled down below their nostrils.
All of the people - customers and employees - at Costco had masks. Only one or two were wearing them ineffectively.
All of the people at the grocery store were wearing masks.
I think I was the only customer in the drug store. The employees were all wearing masks, although the pharmacist pulled hers down once she was over a dozen feet from the counter.
I may avoid Home Despot for the duration. Or I'll wear my remaining N95 mask (with the worn out elastic and rusty staples) when I go there.
The whole principle is that a cloth mask protects everyone else from the wearer, so if everyone wears one, everyone is protected. People aren't getting the message.

pianojugglerApparently, it wasn't a mandate. It was a suggestion.

NinaMy place of employment is still closed, but it will open with a mask requirement policy, zero tolerance. But heck, we're a bunch of liberals out these parts.

DougA lot of the casinos opened in Nevada yesterday.
The employees are all wearing masks, but the video clips show about a quarter of the customers are wearing masks. I’ve been going out in public a lot more than some of you, but I couldn’t see myself near one of these places.

CHASThis morning Don picked up groceries via Instacart near my home in Colorado.
He said the crowd at the supermarket was as large as in previous years.
Few are wearing masks
Had to go into Petsmart because the dog was in serious need of clipping and grooming.
About 20% were wearing masks. Those with no masks included two women who were obviously pregnant.

My city also has a reputation for being pretty darned liberal, as well, although the inner eastern suburb has pockets of conservatives -- all that money floating around y'know.
It does seem that the mask/no-mask has become people's badge of political affiliation.
And a loose bandana (like you can actually see the person's lips) is apparently a protest: I'm wearing this mask only so I can get into the store.
Like that scene in Another Roadside Attraction where the guy on the scooter is wearing his motorcycle helmet on his knee. The law only says you have to wear a helmet... it doesn't say on which body part.

We have a mandate. Doesn't mean everyone will comply, but it does give business owners the force of law in addition to the old norm a that the owner gets to set the rules, like no shirt no service.

CindysphinxAs you know, I slot myself on the low end of the sliding scale of concern about corona virus.
Still, I wear a mask when I go into a closed store because those are the rules where I live. I tie it at the top of my head and have it as loose as it can be and not fall off into the street. This is because it is hard to breathe and fogs my glasses. I honestly don't know how you people breathe with those things on your faces. I hate it.
The minute that masks are not longer required will be the last minute I wear one.
I do not wear the mask outdoors, period. It is not required here. Stay away from me and I'll stay away from you.
It has nothing to do with political affiliation (obviously). It has to do with not being willing to endure discomfort to soothe someone else's nerves.
I'm following the rules, but I won't go above and beyond them.
Cindy -- sorry not sorry

DanielI believe it's advisable to wear one. Still, people will make their own decisions.
