Russian Missiles Hit Poland
Killing Two

Probably overshot a target rather than deliberate, but who knows. How will Poland respond?

Yes, Poland has been in NATO for more than 20 years. The military drills that NATO has held in Poland have been pissing off Putin for years.

That's the $64,000 question. Even odds as far as I'm concerned. Putin's crazy enough to have done it on purpose. Waiting for him to blame the Ukrainians. "They used the missiles we left behind and are trying to blame us."

It’s a tragedy but I doubt anything will come of it.

Quite sensibly, Poland wants to establish facts first. That should be fairly easy to do once they piece together the debris.

Then They'll Likely Invoke Article IV

Good thread on this and on Poland's likely response

Polish President Andrzej Duda said the missile that killed two people in eastern Poland on Tuesday was likely fired by Ukrainian forces defending against a wave of Russian missile strikes, and that the incident appeared to be an accident.

“There is no indication that this was an intentional attack on Poland. Most likely, it was a Russian-made S-300 rocket,” Duda said in a tweet Wednesday. He later told a press conference that there was a “high chance” it was an air defense missile from the Ukrainian side and likely had fallen on Polish territory in “an accident” while intercepting incoming Russian missiles.

Duda’s comments were in line with those of two officials briefed on initial US assessments, who told CNN it appears the missile that originated in Ukraine, even though it was Russian-made.

This is why we dig through the evidence before doing anything. Fortunately, the dig in this case was very quick, as expected.
