QuirtEvansThis doesn't really answer your question, but I assume that, in the end, it will come down to whether it's possible to slice off enough Republicans in the House. McCarthy can't support a clean debt limit increase, it would be the end of his speakership. So, are there enough reasonable Republicans who are willing to vote with the Democrats and risk having Trump insult them and try to primary them? I don't know.

MikhailohA deal will be reached that allows both sides to save face but will accomplish very little if anything.

NinaHere's my prediction. The GOP will negotiate another extension, not "giving in." Then the Biden administration will bring it up under 14th amendment grounds, where they will prevail unless the SCOTUS is totally screwy. But they will prevail because it serves both parties (if they're smart enough to see it), and if SCOTUS is truly in the GOP's pocket then a little bird will hint that they need to let this one go.
1. The Debt ceiling disaster goes away. Biden (and the rest of us) win.
2. The GOP held tough, forced things to go all the way through legislation (big, bad commie legislators), and would have prevailed had it not been for the legal precedent. McCarthy/MAGA Republican win.
I firmly believe that McCarthy and McConnell don't want this to be their legacy.

Daniel https://thehill.com/homenews/h...eiling-gets-results/ The "debt ceiling" had nothing to do with extorting policy until now.
The Democrats' weakness is appalling.

big alIt's like watching the two parties play Russian roulette. We all could be hit by a bullet.
