DougCancel culture at the New York times
So, I’ve been getting the Sunday New York Times delivered to my home every week for about the last 13 months.
Suddenly, this week they canceled me! Stopped delivery without giving me any sort of a notice by mail, phone, email - nothing!
My outrage is mitigated, only slightly, by the fact that I never ordered the Sunday New York Times…

wtgMaybe the regular delivery person is on vacation and the sub missed your house.

DougThe sequence of events that I think lead up to this:
December 2019 -I used some airline miles to pay for a Barron’s subscription.
February 2020- I called the airline because I have not received barrons, they tell me Barrons never received the order and they gave me my miles back.
Later February 2020- I start receiving the New York Times every Sunday.
march 2020- I am now receiving every Sunday, wrapped in one cellophane bag, both the Sunday New York Times and barrons.
This week, I get only Barron’s. I guess is that this will run out after another couple of weeks.
I think my airline accidently signed me up for the Times instead of Barron’s, then when I called because I hadn’t received it they somehow signed me up for Barron’s, without canceling the times.
I did give the New York Times one phone call and one email to try to clear it up, after that I figure it’s on them.
So anyway, back to my original complaint, I think I’m within a few weeks of having to pay for my own reading material…

DougI had seen reference to the term “cancel culture” on the inter-webs somewhere, but it never really hits home until it happens to you…

kluursI had a similar experience with the Chicago Tribune. I called them to let them know I wasn't supposed to receive the paper - but it came for another year. I almost wanted to call and complain when they finally stopped delivering the free paper.

It's only partially cancel culture tho -- you were denied something you didn't deserve in the first place yes... but you didn't moan and groan about your rights being trampled.
But it's good enough
