We just got confirmation of our calendar for the rest of the school year, which continues to be in person, except for the period after Thanksgiving when we'll be online. The university hasn't said anything official and perhaps they can't, given the need to respect the family's privacy.

MA, does that mean you have teach in person in the spring semester or are you able to choose?

That's still being worked out. My spring schedule planning has been complicated by the fact that I need to make up a course that didn't make this semester. And that's been complicated by our "COVID schedule," which allows extra time between classes and thus pushes afternoon classes into the evening. The first suggestion for making the class up involved me teaching in person three nights a week, plus tutoring seven students individually online, plus teaching an online class. That just seemed untenable, especially the three-nights-a-week part. Fortunately, they have agreed to move my extra class to the summer, when I'll teach Writing Mystery and Suspense online. Ordinarily, I wouldn't be happy about that because that's when I see my kids, but I really don't think the pandemic will be over. Summer work aside, I like the idea of teaching Mystery and Suspense online, because that's my specialty and there are probably people outside Oklahoma who would want to take it. If it's well-received, I might be able to continue teaching it online as part of my regular load now and then. But you asked about this semester. If they don't accept my request to teach online, I may be teaching three evenings a week in person, plus the online tutorials, but without the online class on top of it all.
