Minor Deity |
https://www.vice.com/en/articl...keep-elderly-company The article may have sensationalized the news a bit. But the underlying concept is still interesting: a nursing home is deliberately and systematically arranging for babies to visit the home after recognizing that the presence of babies tend to make the residents happy. The nursing home has even spec’ed out what sort of babies they want: age between zero and three years, cannot speak Japanese well. Not sure if similar concept will fly in the USA. Japan is so far ahead of other developed countries when it comes to aging population.

A similar concept... The place where my Mom lived also had a day care center for children. It was physically located in the same building and there were a lot of interactions between residents and the kids. The day care center had big red stroller wagon thingys that they would pile a bunch of kids into, and they would take them to various units in the building to visit. They really brightened up everyone's day. Whenever I'd catch sight of them coming down the hall, I'd say to my Mom "here comes the baby bus!" and she would get a big smile on her face.
https://www.lutheranlifecommun...eranhome/child-care/ Even better than kids, the Lutheran Church Charities Comfort Dogs used to visit regulary. The young dogs in training were the best. Whenever you met a dog, the handler gave you the dog's business card.
