SO and I received our rapid tests in the mail.

We have four of them because this is how many you get.

He refuses to test himself because he said he doesn't have symptoms.

I don't agree. I think it's logical for us to BOTH take one AND THEN BOTH ISOLATE if necessary.

The test will probably take me a couple hours to figure out.

That's a hard one to answer, because ultimately it's a question of risk tolerance, which is very personal. For me, I'd be trying to strike a balance looking at symptoms and opportunity for exposure. If, like me, you spend most of your time wearing a mask and having minimal contact with others, I wouldn't test unless I had symptoms.

On the other hand, if I did something that exposed me significantly, AND I was potentially going to expose someone that was vulnerable, I'd likely test.

But like I said, that's my risk calculus.

I don't understand. Did either of you have a known exposure? (Grocery shopping doesn't count)

If not, then I don't think you need to take a test now.

From my understanding, the times to take a test are:
1. Someone you were physically close to for a certain amount of time (more than 10-15 minutes?) tests positive
2. You have symptoms that match known symptoms of the current variant.
3. You are going to a wedding or to see an elderly relative and you want to make sure you test negative beforehand (in which case, do the test an hour or so before the event)

If you have been going about your life as usual for the last several months and not gotten sick yet, there's no reason to take the test just because it arrived in the post.

Apologies in advance if I'm misunderstanding the situation!

He's agreed to reconsider.

His sister tested positive (then negative), two of her daughters tested positive (one is probably still positive), one or two (I think) of her grandchildren tested positive (no follow up yet). And there's a family funeral in the next few days.

SO has spent hours with his sister. I've met her at the door or outside.

Daniel, oh dear, I had no idea. I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of that, worry about covid and get ready to attend a funeral.

Put that swab up you nose until you sneeze or your eyes water, then change nostrils is how I do it. So far so good.

All of us tested two days before for my mother's 90th birthday party on Sat.

I didn't have symptoms either but we all agreed to do it.
