https://www.propublica.org/art...ess-searches-lawsuit The story is about families and children suffering harm when certain child services agency repeatedly search homes and interrogate children in response to anonymous calls that report child abuses, even when previous searches and interrogations have come up empty. It's nuanced. There are laws that require child services to investigate every call/report of child abuse, and that laws likely miss some moderating elements to protect families/children from malicious, repeated baseless reports of abuse.

Wow, how horrible! At the very least, the person calling in the report should be required to leave their name. If that were happening, this mother and her child probably would not be having all these invasive visits!

Horrible! There are so many malicious people and nosy busybodies out there. Surely the woman must have had some idea of who would do such a thing to her? There's a parallel sort of thing going on with animal cruelty cases. People who know nothing about proper animal care, or who don't understand what they are looking at (old horses, for example, are often skinny. Or the owner could have just rescued them and is rehabilitating them) call the police or animal control or the sheriff and make the animal's owner's life a living hell.

Whippets and Greyhounds have very little fat. Their ribs often show. Owners get the same sort of trouble from well meaning busybodies.

And of course, child abuse and neglect does exist, but these types of ridiculous activities mean there is less time to actually investigate real cases. I can't tell from the article whether these particular investigations were initiated by CPS (after the initial complaint) or whether the same person is repeatedly alleging they've witnessed abuse/neglect. If the latter, I'm surprised that isn't illegal.
