Piano*DadThe New JD Vance
Real, or Act?This author thinks real, not facade. An expression of a new alienated worldview.
quote:
And now there’s an ideological home for that worldview: Vance has become one of the leading political avatars of an emergent populist-intellectual persuasion that tacks right on culture and left on economics. Known as national conservatism or sometimes “post-liberalism,” it is — in broad strokes — heavily Catholic, definitely anti-woke, skeptical of big business, nationalist about trade and borders, and flirty with Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban.
I don't find it particularly new. It was rising in the 20s, and ascendant in the 30s. It's called National Socialism, or simply Nazism.

Steve MillerPolitics here are very different from politics in CA.
Right now it looks like the GOP candidate will be Josh Mandel - a far right kook in the mold of TFG. Aside from media, no one seems much interested in Vance.
The Dem candidate will likely be Mike Ryan. He’s a moderate with an interest in boring but useful things, like infrastructure and jobs, and sounds a lot like Ohio’s other Senator Sherrod Brown. Brown won in 2018 by a decent margin so there is hope.
Interesting times.

NinaMy personal political leanings haven't really changed much in decades, other than to become more disgusted with the far right MAGA crowd.
It took me a few years after we moved from AZ to not cringe if I were in a conversation about politics here, because to confess that you actually voted for, say, Obama in Arizona would immediately start an argument. It gets exhausting. Let's hope that Mike Ryan gets in.

Mandel is the emptiest empty suit I have ever seen. He's the Republican that made me vote for Sherrod Brown. If they run him again I will vote Dem again. If you want to see Mandel in action look for the 'debate' between he and Brown. I'm sure it's on Youtube somewhere. Utterly uninformed and unprepared. Nothing but vague and unrelated talking points.

MikhailohOh, and don't be so sure he will be the nominee. that may be NE Ohio wishful thinking by the Dems.

I didn't watch it, though I remember the commentary that it was truly head shaking. But that can be said about any event Trump has participated in. And he has milked his base quite well using word salad, lies, and bravado.

MikhailohTrump is light years ahead of Mandel in debates. Trust me. It was embarrassing. For him, that is.

Then he must be both brain dead AND street dumb.

Latest poll I can find though has him leading, with everyone else crowded together for second.

I’m only going by the polls.
