Most of you have probably already heard of these AI tools for the spread of disinformation but here's an update. I had thought the greatest danger was a use of the same technology to manipulate videos of celebrities or political figures to make it look as if they had said and/or done things they hadn't. This article doesn't allude to that application, though. Seeing certainly isn't believing anymore - hasn't been for a good while. Interesting software available to create deepfakes by non-professionals, too. Guess they could be used for malicious purposes on social media, also deepfake sexting. Deepfakes proliferating

There was some talk a few decades ago that by now the Rodney King video would be worthless in court because any shmoe with a computer could alter a video. I think the next step will be deepfakes that have all the digital signatures of an original unedited raw video. That will call into question the legitimacy of every video we ever see… think George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and so forth.

Yeah... And both "sides" will just use the video cams interpretations to reinforce their own preexisting POVs. Thus, just another tool building polarization. Again
