I have been reading about this alternative pepper variety for a while and some praise it to the skies. I bought a small package from Kalustyan’s, a famous spice and exotic grocery shop in New York, and I do find it different from black pepper. More complex, more fruity, but not revelatory, just different. Has anyone else tried it? I’d be interested in your opinion. This red-ripened Cambodian product from Reluctant Trading Co. sounds promising. P.S. It won’t work in your standard pepper grinder for obvious reasons. I just crush it in a mortar.

Interesting. Is it a bit like Aleppo pepper?

I’ve not had Aleppo pepper, but just read that Aleppo is a capsicum (like chile peppers) and Long Pepper is in the Piper family (as is black pepper).
