Actually, it hadn’t occurred to me. But now that you point it out, of course people are going to try to jump the line.

Pharmacies may be the weak point. Pfizer is less likely to divert product to individuals not in the sanctioned queue but private pharmacists, if they are the distributor, would face greater temptation to cheat for money. | |||

I think the biggest problem here is that once again the I-1 administration has abdicated its responsibility and delegated management of the vaccine to the states. So there are going to be 50 different ways the distribution is going to happen. Concierge medical firms like the one in the article will figure out which states are the easiest to get their clients vaccinated in and the wealthy and well-connected will hop on their private jets and go there. Oh, and the feds also said the vaccines will be allocated based on the population of each state. So, if MediBucks figures out that, say, Nebraska's ("More Cows Than People™") controls are loose, all of their clients will fly to Omaha and deprive actual vulnerable and high-priority residents of Nebraska of their very limited allocation of vaccines. Another problem I can foresee is a clinic is told how many doses they will get total and administers half that number which may be all of the doses they get on the first shipment. Then, two or three months later when it's time for people to get their second dose, the vaccine doesn't arrive. Then what? If a vaccine can be stored at -80 for a month, then -2 for two days, the clinic cannot just set aside half of what they get in the first shipment to make sure they have enough for the second round. And that would still delay or deprive half of the people getting vaccinated. A well-thought-out, well-coordinated, well-managed nationwide program would help immensely. But I-1 and his toadies cannot be bothered to do that. Sad!
