Kind of makes sense, looking at little trends in consumer behavior to assess the economic zeitgeist.

When I was doing environmental work, I was doing a job at a landfill. The workers do a good bit of sorting before putting garbage in the landfill, and one of the things these people did was pull out the pizza boxes into a big pile. My client said that they reliably knew when a recession was coming, because people ordered a lot less delivery pizza during the months beforehand.

I'm guessing less, at least until the economy starts to climb out of the recession.. The diminishing number of pizza boxes is the early warning that people are starting to save money... MA, do we have any pizza box data for the back end of a recession?

No, an increase in pizza boxes meant that the economy was coming back.
