Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project
Would like to see the movie. Meanwhile, am catching up on history..it's been years since I read The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes.

quote:
Who was the real Robert Oppenheimer?

As the movie Oppenheimer is released, Ben Platts-Mills explores the true story of the enigmatic Manhattan Project scientist, and the atomic bomb that made him a "destroyer of worlds".

I have a little piece of related history. I may have posted a photo of it before.

Dad got it for his 25th anniversary at Argonne National Lab.

I am curious to see the movie myself.

I can definitely recommend the book "American Prometheus, The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer" by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. It's a thorough biography that, to my mind, gave a lot of insight into the man.

Thanks, Al. I have a hold on it at my library.

Also, I looked up the value of that piece of graphite. Last time I checked it was around $900. The price has almost quadrupled since then.

Met a guy who worked at the Alamosa labs when I was visiting the gay B&B near Breckenridge. Think it was around 1998.
He said the labs we could visit him there because nothing was locked and people wandered in and out.
Was near Alamosa planning to see the place when I stopped at a small grocery in the countryside.
There were slabs of salmon and king crab legs on ice. Not a typical country store.

If I had ever learned about U-234 (that's U Boat 234), I had forgotten.

Hitler's Atomic U-Boat delivery to Japan

Certain irony in U-234 delivering the raw material for U-235.
