I thought I read some time ago that NY crime rates were edging up since bail reforms were implemented at the beginning of the year. But I don't track NY crime stats very closely, so I'm not sure what's happening. If Chicago had a weekend like New York did, we'd call it a resounding success. This past weekend there were 104 shot, 14 fatally.

I don't know what local crime statistics have to say about shootings, but it seems like a rare evening when I listen to the 11 o'clock news and don't hear about at least one shooting, more often than not with fatal results. I hope my impression is not borne out by actual results, but I find it discouraging. Big Al

Seems to me there was a lot of talk about shootings and other crime being way down during lockdowns. Mightn't much of this latest phenomenon be in effect "pent-up demand"?
