I grew up listening to Professor Tom. In fact my wife and I have been singing lines from Lobachevsky at each other the last few days. One of my favorite lines from a short autobiography was "my parents were Gastronomic Jews -- they worshiped at the deli".

A friend likes to say he's a culinary Jew. Only just discovered Tom Lehrer? Heavens! We grew up listening to the album "That was the week that was." My brother and I had all the lyrics memorized. We were not allowed to play the album when my parents' Catholic friends were visiting lest they overhear "The Vatican Rag"

I thought it was MIT. He was told he could remain on the faculty or he could be an entertainer. Not both.

My kids are well acquainted with his "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" as part of the Dr. Demento CD that was our soundtrack for family vacations!
