Well, it’s official. I’m the new Acting Special Counsel In the Civil Rights Division. This means I am now a manager instead of a line attorney. I will now supervise attorneys I used to work with on policing investigations, as well as Supervising the teams as they monitor compliance with injunctions and consent decrees.

It comes with the opportunity for additional stress and longer hours. And no extra money. I will likely become “not Acting” if either the guy I am covering for never returns from parental leave, or there is a change of administration.

I kind of had to step up and take this on. America is on fire because policing, and many of my peers have kids and struggle to work at all because no school.

So. I went from working for no salary to manager in 6+ years. It has been a wild ride. But oh, policing is very troubled right now. I hope my office gets the leadership and resources needed to make a difference before there is nothing left to police.
