Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a Hindi romantic comedy. It stars beautiful young people in leading roles, as young lovers struggling to gain their family elders’ blessing for their love for each other. Colorful costume, festive wedding ceremony, elaborate dance and musical numbers, quite a bit of Indian customs and cultural elements factored into the plot and embedded into the overall design of the movie, it’s every bit a Bollywood production except this one thing: the lead couple are gay. The story ends on the day the Indian Supreme Court declares Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code unconstitutional (i.e., a decision that decriminalized homosexual acts). Turns out that’s the first Indian movie featuring same-sex romance that I’ve ever seen, and it is one that targets the mass market, not just targeting some art houses. Looks like the people of India, or at least the entertainment market, are more accepting of homosexuality that I previously thought.

Yes, I have. I did not know that it's about a pair of same-sex lovers until I actually saw the movie. I just did not think that India/Bollywood is already that advanced with their acceptance of same-sex romance/marriage.
