Good news first: we are fine, our house is fine, everything is fine. Except for corona...

So, we were in the line of severe weather that cut across several southern states last night. Long story short, we were awakened by a tornado warning at 3am. Well, I wasn’t really asleep, I knew bad weather was coming and I could not sleep.

Anyway, I got us up and we went down into the basement. After a few minutes, we heard the strangest sound, I knew it was bad. But I could also tell that nothing had hit the house. The wind was terrifying, but mercifully passed after maybe an hour and things calmed.

When we went outside, around 4am I think, we learned that a massive cedar had fallen, splitting in two, with part of it blocking the road and the other part cutting across our yard and missing our house by mere feet. I’ll try to share a photo later.

Somehow our power stayed on, although eventually it went out for an hour or so. It’s back now. We heard from friends that there were trees coming through people’s roofs all over town. Frowner

I am trying not to think about just how lucky we are, or just how close that was, because I sort of catch my breath whenever I do.

I have maybe slept for an hour in the last 24 hours.

Also, people kept coming by offering estimates for removing it, I kept having to tell people “6 feet!”

So, no more drama, please. In fact I would like a “no tornadoes during corona” rule. Please and thank you.

When I lived in Brazil, most motorists were offensive, not defensive drivers. When someone came exceptionally close, the other driver made a motion like a swipe of the hand close to the side of the face, meaning "that was a close shave."

I thought of that when I saw how close the tree was to your house. Glad it was only a close shave and hope that you don't have any more such exciting nights.
