For every 1000 things I attempt to fix, it feels like I make 998 worse or completely destroy the item being fixed resulting in the purchase of a new "thing". There was a pool of water in the basement near the furnace/air condition and dehumidifier. At first, I thought it was a malfunctioning dehumidifier - possibly a clog or leak in the drain. I unhooked the dehumifier and found that if anything, there was more water on the floor. My next thought was a clogged drain or leak in the air conditioner. I went on-line and found no helpful information - but decided to open the unit and see if there wsa anything visible leaking. Nope. Then I noticed that a drain tube seemed not to be draining into the sump pump pit. Cleaned it out and refit it to the pump pit. Re-started the dehumidifer and crossed fingers. Seems to be a success. Someone who knew what they were doing probably could have fixed this in 3 minutes or less - but I'll take the victory. Now only another 990 or so failures, and we'll have another success!

Good for you! I'm not handy or as I used to say not mechanically inclined but I've improved my skills about 10x over by doing things myself and not asking my RM to do them for me. It is indeed a good feeling when a plan comes together.

Shocking to me - and to perhaps others - but I have now fixed a SECOND THING! I'm still amazed. I had bought a compact leg press earlier in the year. It worked well - until the other day when a bunch of ball bearings - fell out of the bottom of the unit. That was clue that the device was possibly not working correctly. I did some surgery on the device - and dragged a huge portion of it back to the manufacturer - located a few miles away. I was given the part, along with the suggestion that I purchase one of those tools I didn't already have - and then - success. It worked again. And now for the most incredible news, I fixed a 3rd item that had been laying around for a while - a ski machine device that helps strengthen ankles and calves - and probably shouldn't be used by anyone over the age of 23. In any event, I had bought the machine sight unseen - and later learned it was missing some parts. I sent away to Canada for the parts - and installed today - and a third incredible success. I will now no doubt injure myself and or others while using it - but a small price to be paid for the victory I have achieved. Just bring it on - things to be fixed - The economy, the war in the middle east, our government - Doug's addiction to C suites - whatever I'm on a roll.

My friend Dave was fond of telling me that ordinary men built it and ordinary men can fix it. I did all kinds of crazy repairs with his voice in my ear.
