Are there any good music stores in Portland these days? Is Artichoke Music still around? I think they were in the Hawthorne district. Thanks.

What kind of music store are you looking for? Artichoke Music moved to new digs a few years ago, on SE Powell. I was taking harmony singing classes there, with Anne Weiss. But if you’re looking for piano music, you might want something different. Portland Music Company in Beaverton may have more piano sheet music. They have locations in PDX, too, but they’re smaller and won’t have as much. I’m guessing the sheet music store next to Classic Piano is gone? Nina, have any tips to add?

Thanks. Looking at banjos. Artichoke's website has no details on what lines of instruments they carry, other than harps. I bought a bass recorder from them 20 years ago or more. Portland Music Co's Beaverton store is not far from my brother's house. I might pop in there. But it looks like banjos may only be at the Broadway store.

Oh, yes, acoustic instruments at Broadway store. We’ve bought several guitars there.

Thanks some more. I chatted with PMC. They have a few banjos at each store. They don’t have the one I’m particularly interested in; they can order one but it would probably be a year before it arrives. I may be in Portland in late January. He said that whatever they have now will probably all sell over the holidays. I’ll check back with them before I head down and see what they have.

Let me know when you’re coming down; I’d love to say howdy, if you’re so inclined.

Ditto -- on all counts. Although I will totally defer to AM on locating banjos. | |||
