Oh, man. This is going to be a disaster in a country where people think that wearing a mask infringes on their rights.

We had (outdoor) dinner with some right wing friends last week. They’re anti vax folk.

I made the point that they can refuse the jab if they want, but us pro vax types will eventually wear them out. Travel, concerts, movies, casinos, sporting events - insurance companies are going to insist that patrons show proof of vaccination before allowing entrance.

I think they’re going to move to Texas.

Republicans already know how to solve that problem. They get Republican legislatures to pass laws absolving businesses of liability.

That might make anti vax folk feel victorious, but a lot of people are not going to any of those places until they feel secure doing so.

I think the market will demand it. There are more of us than there are of them.

Me, too.

And the complexities.

Steve, what is their rationale for being against getting the vaccination? Having gotten my second shot Friday and very glad for it, I find it difficult to understand.

I doubt measures like vax passports will get off the ground. At least not in this country. With vaccination rates starting to accelerate it's likely not necessary.

What I wonder about, and we are hearing very little of, is what is the rest of the world doing? Are we hogging all the resources at the expense of poorer nations?

And a short google reveals that yeah, the richer countries are getting the resources.

One of her kids had a reaction to the MMR vaccine decades ago and she hasn’t gotten a shot since. She also doesn’t believe in modern medicine and prefers faith healing to traditional therapies. This is a shame because she suffers terribly from what appears to be RA. Despite a very nice income they don’t carry medical insurance, preferring some sort of prayer line.

Even so, they were kind of all over the place on the Covid vax and resisted all attempts to change the subject. They’re working it through

Time will tell.

Estimates vary, but it won’t be long before everyone in the US who wants a vax will have one. That will leave a tremendous amount of excess manufacturing capacity, most of which will be exported.

I don’t know what the financing will look like, but lack of supply should not be an issue for poorer countries within 6 months.

Until recently I would have agreed with you, but with reports of variants on the rise I no longer do.

Anti vaxers need to be separated from the public at large. To do do otherwise risks a repeat of 2020.

I don't know about Ohio, but here in Virginia we already get a card that proves you've been vaccinated. The digital app is likely a simpler solution, but the card will do at this point.

I suspect the demand for counterfeits would rise if people were suddenly asked to show proof in any important way (like for air travel or other public conveyance) before vaccines become generally available. And once they are generally available, the card/app will be a way to separate people in case the statistics still show a meaningful % of resisters who could be vectors of transmission (especially to those who cannot take a vaccine for one reason or another).

Yeah, I have a card too but it is hand filled and would be seriously easy to fake.

I think the population would rebel at any step that would require you to have it t do certain things. Hell, we don't even want voter id.
