It definitely gets like that during storms! I remember as a kid being out swimming at Point Pelee with a storm rolling in (but still far enough away that we were safe) and the waves were way over our heads.

Lake Erie can be treacherous for sailing. It's so shallow that a storm can blow up and have you in deep trouble fast.
