Five years ago, he won by 30%. This time, it was single digits -- approximately 42 to 58. Not a comfortable margin.

One might presume that a lot of his win was "not Le Pen", no "yes Macron".

French hardly every vote for an incumbent. Throughout history, there are always disappointed in their government at any moment. At least, they have laid off using the guillotine as a tool of political change.

Le Pen has softened her rhetoric. Given her history and personality, it's unlikely that she has moderator any of her positions.

Nevertheless, big sigh of relief. For now.
