Several Republicans are set to speak at the Democratic National Convention Monday evening in a show of bipartisan support for former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris.

Democrats announced the GOP lineup on the first day of their virtual convention, saying three former GOP elected officials would outline their party-switching support for Biden:

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich
Former Rep. Susan Molinari, R-N.Y.
Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman

Silicon Valley CEO and one-time Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman is also scheduled to address convention watchers.

Cindy McCain, widow of John McCain, the longtime Arizona senator and 2008 Republican presidential nominee, will appear in a Democratic convention video Tuesday night offering her support for Joe Biden.

McCain is the latest Republican to make an appearance at the virtual Democratic convention. On Monday night, four Republican leaders, including former Ohio Governor John Kasich, encouraged Republicans and independents to support Biden. Cindy McCain's appearance is particularly notable, since her husband and Sarah Palin ran against President Obama and Biden in 2008.

A teaser for the video, titled "An Unlikely Friendship," was posted by the Democratic National Convention Committee ahead of the start of the second night of speeches. John McCain and Biden met when McCain was assigned to be a military aide for Biden, then a Delaware senator. They became friends, and their families would picnic in the Bidens' backyard.

"They would just sit and joke. It was like a comedy show, sometimes, to watch the two of them," Cindy McCain said in the clip.

She is not expected to endorse Biden "at this time," a source close to McCain confirmed to CBS News.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell plans to say at the Democratic National Convention that he supports Joe Biden for president because of the values they share.

Powell served as secretary of state under Republican President George W. Bush from 2001 until 2005, and served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under both Bush and Democratic President Bill Clinton.

In an advance clip of his speech Tuesday, Powell says that Biden shares "the values I learned growing up in the South Bronx and serving in uniform" and that he supports him for president because "we need to restore those values to the White House."

If Michelle Obama crushed it, Dr. Jill Biden knocked it out of the park. Let’s not compare her to the woman who currently occupies the position of First Lady.

Everyone does what they need to do to protect their family.

Is anyone else irritated that the various state representatives had to announce votes for traitor Bernie Sanders?

Why should Sanders be considered a traitor now, Steve? He's made as thorough a repudiation of his candidacy now as seems humanly possible, explaining in the strongest words, the extreme danger of not getting Trump out of the White House.

Besides that, although I hadn't expected the information (state by state) I found it instructive to learn how the delegates had been divided between Sanders and Biden when the prelinary preferences were expressed. The states where Sanders outnumbered Biden back then, and where Biden had made a clean sweep (and all the various ratios).

Also instructive how many delegates there were in each state. Are there the same number of Republicans? Is it the same population for both parties? (May sound dumb, if it goes by number registered party by party)

Makes me wonder how and where those stalwarts are apt to hold fast, despite Sanders' present stance.

Digression: Anybody else think it odd that the New Hampshire ("Granite State") rep introduced himself with "Aloha"!??

Bernie Sanders ran as a spoiler - the candidate for the bleeding edge of the far left. He never had a prayer and he knew it. He ran only to hear himself screech and to make things difficult for normal Democrats. Had he sat down and shut up we’d be in a far better position than we are now.

Democrats are still saddled with this jackass and the sooner he goes away the better.

No. It's a convention. It's not a commercial.

I respect your pov.

Though, to me, Powell is a war criminal who lied about non-existent weapons of mass destruction in front of the UN to get us into the second Iraq war. The Iraq war was illegal under international law, killed well over 500,000 people, displaced countless others, and destabilized the entire region.

To the topic of the Democrats having Republican speakers at their convention, and more specifically their attempt to win over suburban Republican voters, I've said this before, and I'll say it again. This strategy per se did not work for Hillary Clinton.

I could be wrong but I doubt it will work for Joe Biden.
