There are other ways to get free COVID tests kits, but the federal free tests by mail program is ending.

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/08/2...19-tests-friday.html

By another odd coincidence (I hadn't heard about the program ending), I ordered rounds 2 and 3 last week; I had previously only ordered round 1 when it became available.

The ones they show there were very ineffective. Tested negative twice while I was symptomatic. used a Roche test and was positive.

Good to know.

For round 1, we got ones called Flowflex made by ACON Laboratories.

I'll see what brand(s) we get this time around.

Found this piece on Consumer Reports about at home tests.

https://www.consumerreports.or...nswered-a5239963714/

And a list of the various kits and their theoretical accuracy:

And I had to look up PPA/NPA.

So I was able to place two orders and they arrived today. One is Abbott's BinaxNow and the other is by InBios.

The first order back in January was FlowFlex.

Test kit smörgåsbord!

Last day to place an order is tomorrow.

Ordered mine yesterday. That'll keep me going for a while.

Just found out that the student who sat right by me in class today is now Covid positive ...

I requested tests last week after using several of my first batch to test for my covid 2 weeks ago (tested negative when I clearly had it though, so I'm not sure how good they were.)

Anyhow, I received them a few days ago.

8 tests total. Roche brand.

They expire in 3 weeks (!!!)

Thanks US government.

I found the Roche brand more accurate than the iHealth ones. They showed negative twice when I was clearly symptomatic.

If you have Flowflex tests, the expiration date has been extended.

https://www.aconlabs.com/flowf...helf-life-extension/

And Costco has them on sale:

Going for an allergy shot in a few minutes.
