That sounds very frightening for Sharon. What an extra shock for someone who til recently was a Southern Californian. It's different to spend many years living in a climate of snow and ice, though one never really "get's used to" ice, at least not in the sense that one feels safe.

After forty years here, I still feel shook up about spinning my tires off the road three months ago. It was covered with 1 1/2" solid ice, including where I'd skidded off the berm.

Waited over an hour til I could get a cop to advise, with a tow truck on the way (he told me not to budge). Otherwise, I'd have slid down the hill to my left right into a house and its cheery Christmas tree.

Ice patches make for a special nightmare, though. Spinning and landing on the island was great luck all in all, but still traumatic. She can feel relieved with a new car with 4WD, but still! That pounding heart feeling is unforgettable.

I'm pretty sure Mazda is one of the few brands that offers an option that is essentially a "god's eye view" camera, where you can see where your car is from up above. It's hard to describe but it's invaluable for parking, especially in tight spaces. We had one in our Leaf and I miss it every day.

I liked it enough that I was seriously considering trading our new car for any model that had it.

Our Murano has that feature and I love it. My only complaint about the car is that the front hood is shaped such that it's difficult to see exactly where you are in a parking space. The camera takes care of that.

Steve - they just came out with a CX-90 this year, which is a version of the CX-9. They have had the 30 and 50 (alongside CX-3 and CX-5) for a while. I’m not sure what the differences is but it makes sense to compare them.

By the way I have the newish CX-5 and it has the “god camera”. They call it the 360 view camera. Love it.

Our 2015 E320 Wagon has the 360 view camera. It's so cool to see when you nail the parking spot smack in the middle of the lines.

I’ve read about the CX 90 and it looks pretty sweet!

I don’t think they’re available quite yet and we’re not in a position to wait, unfortunately.

The reveal!

2020 Mazda CX-9 Signature edition. 19K miles.

Very similar to the other Mazda but with a lot more gadgets. I especially like the active headlights - they turn when you turn the steering wheel and they're really nice on these dark roads. It's also AWD, which should be useful.

White was hard to find - they're usually black or gray. I figured out this is partly because white was a $200 upgrade and not many people ordered it.

Is that the signature model with the turbo?

I have the 2021. Peppy but poor mileage.

Yes. The 4 cyl turbo is the only engine available in the CX-9 on any of the trim levels. I actually preferred the inline six the old Mazda had but we're not going to tow with it and the 4 cyl is peppy enough for our needs. The new CX-90 will have a larger 6 in it.

Mileage isn't great but we don't drive much these days anyway. I doubt we'll use a tank per month.

Looks good.

I was hoping for a happy ending with a Subaru Outback. Loved mine since 2012 and, unlikely as it is, if I ever need another car, it will be another Outback.

Good luck with it. You can probably get a good deal from Mazda and Mitsubishi. It’s because as the two lowest volume Japanese auto makers, they’re eager to make a deal to increase their market share of new cars.

Good thing she didn’t select the Soul Red color if it's offered on the CX-9. It is for the CX-5. Soul Red is a color Mazda offers as an extra cost option and it requires multiple steps to apply. The red color is so bright, it looks like it can glow in the dark. The problem with the Soul Red is that body shops have trouble duplicating the color. Also, there have been reports of the red color paint having paint chipping issues.

Nice car! My future DIL drives a Mazda CX-5 and loves it. I've driven it a bit and it's a nice car.

How odd that white would be an upcharge. Does it have ground up actual pearls in it?
