So I'll turn this into a PSA...October is almost over but it's National Fire Prevention Month... The smoke/CO alarm outside our bedroom went off in the middle of the night last night. It did three "beep beep beep" cycles and then went silent. The three beeps signal smoke (rather than CO) detection and there was no smoke anywhere. And no, they weren't the chirps that signal an old battery. Spiders or dust can cause an alarm to malfunction, so we vacuumed the unit (I don't think we've ever done that) and put it back up after testing it. We also had a spare unit down in the basement so we just set in the hallway as a backup. Then went back to bed and waited for the adrenaline to wear off...our deaf dog slept through the whole episode. Anyway, nothing bad happened but I thought I'd remind everyone to check your smoke and CO detectors....and to vacuum them out if you haven't done so. You're welcome.
