Wow! Dan, that is a wonderful, selfless act. Kudos to Margaret! And I’m happy to hear that Brian stayed healthy!

Quirt and MaryAnna - you both have remarkable kiddos. I hadn’t heard about Muffin Sister’s promotion. Good for her! Will she miss working in the food end of things?

A Pic a Day - Good for both of your kiddos! It sounds like they are both responsible and self-motivated!

Thanks for the kind words about Liam’s path. I’m sceptical enough about the state of higher ed right now to not worry too much about his lack of credentials - just hopeful that he will land on the right thing for him!

This is so wonderful...I have met many of the 'kids' mentioned here, in fact I got to see Pic A Day's boys soon after they were born. I think they are both taller than me now. Smiler

Med school for Puffin!! Wow! And Dan, your daughter is a saint..and we need more folks like her who are so dedicated to the whole of our society. Muffin and Muffin's Sister are amazing women. Quirt..there has never been any doubt your girls would go on to big things..Congrats!

Dol, I am glad your son is finding his creative life. My Middle is only now getting back to it with more free pandemic time...Spare time brings out creativity!

Oldest, as some of you may remember, went to Honduras with me a lifetime ago on an invitation from Dewey (it was 2006). He later went back after college to live and work there for a year's volunteer program.

He came back to be a Special Ed Aide in the public schools here and JUST as the pandemic lock down set in, he was already set to start his mostly online MSW program at Simmons. He thinks he wants to work as a guidance councilor for lower grades but knows he can go into private practice as well.

Middle and Shorty both work at a high end restaurant here that has been doing takeout/delivery..They work fewer hours and could be getting more in unemployment but have opted to continue to work and use their extra time to learn new skills and the owners are happy offer them the space to do so.

Shorty spends his extra time helping out the chefs in the kitchen and has become quite the cook himself! Yum!

I love reading the updates. Congrats to all!

Boy-nyc turned 11 a couple of weeks ago. He also finished Elementary School, so he'll be a middle schooler come September.

He's handling quarantine pretty well. Though he's sad he has to miss camp, which is open after all.

We've actually instituted a summer home academic routine consisting of 45m each of math, reading, coding, and history five days a week. He's surprisingly cool with it.

He also rides his bike 5-6 miles a day, while Rachel and I walk.

My middle child has having a bit of a tough time during the quarantine. He was working for a tech start up company that ran out of money right about the time this stuff was all ramping up. he then took a month or two basically to deal with the stress of some personal stuff combined with the virus stories. These last few weeks, he was finally ready to start looking for another job that he could do completely online for the time being.

I guess he had to just accept interviews with whatever flaky little outfits would be willing to deal with his requirements. The first three interviews he did were with Apple, Facebook and Microsoft. Apple has told him they are working on a job offer a package, and he seemed pretty confident that he would have back up offers from Facebook and Microsoft.

apparently, he’s pretty well known in virtual reality programming circles, having won a few awards and done some presentations. It sounds like he’s gonna be able to continue to support himself for a while…

He should be able to support you in the manner to which you would like to be accustomed in your old age.

Funny, Middle, who turns 26 today, has applied to do the same thing..he has passed all the auditions, just needs to pick up assignments.

He has never really had a 'real' job but has worked freelance graphic arts (logos, tattoo art) and gig jobs. His bar-tending job now has expanded with a good employer yet he still is always looking for gig jobs. Not sure he will ever settle down. Smiler It works for him..he never is bored!

It's hard for me to overstate how inspiring this thread is to me. In many cases, we're hearing about kids that we knew vicariously as they grew up.

There is a tendency around to badmouth millenials. I think the responses we can read here to how millenials are dealing with unprecedented times should put a lie to such talk.

Probably somewhat, although the beauty of food is that you can do it at home. With two growing boys, she's having trouble making enough of her creations to keep them from barking for more.

Her main focus with this job is the stability, as it's a twelve-month contract, and the sharp increase in income that comes from both getting a raise from moving into a job that pays her in the summers and during breaks. And that's not mentioning the improved potential for advancement and the options for moving into the private sector that come with shifting into PR.

All these things are important now that she is single again, something that I haven't mentioned here because it seems weird to open a thread for it. Her divorce was final in March. She will be buying a house for her and the boys in the fall, and landing this job at just this time was a real boost for her.

Yikes! I’m guessing that she’s going to remember 2020 as an eventful year….Hope things are going smoothly and she is happy.

Yes, she's very happy.

They are friendly, and the boys split their time between them equally. It's the best thing for all of them, I believe.
