People down the thread are accusing the tweeter of making it up bc, they say, 1) she didn't list the hospital's name, 2) during January, there were not posts to her account about family members with covid, and 3) it's illegal for hospitals to turn patients away so it must not have happened. I don't know if the original poster's tweets are true or not. But even if her story isn't true (and it probably is), we all know that this sort of thing happens all over America.

When I read these types of stories, I definitely feel for the people involved. We've had a minor version of it with Mr wtg, who has been affected by the worldwide shortage of BCG, the TB vaccine that is the front line treatment for bladder cancer. The shortage has affected his treatment protocol but fortunately he is doing OK despite the shortage. At the same time, I think about people in war zones like Syria, or some place like Venezuela, for whom lack of access to any medical care, even the most basic, is a daily problem. Kind of puts things in perspective.
