Laura and I want someone to start making this piano again!! (This is a Pleyel)

KlavierBauerI feel obligated to jump in (sorry it's 7 pages late though!)
I have a very special offering... something still in the conceptual stages, and not yet in production. But how about a titanium piano?
And for Pique...

EHpianistChris, I would imagine it would be easier to balance sound and make both pianos equal as they are both at the same distance from the lid. Two separate pianos, Piano II tends to sound different to Piano I because it has no lid and is not perfectly picked up by the lid of the first piano.
Never played one of these (it seems there are 6 in the world), it may sound awful but I love the concept!
Hey KB, are those Grotrimans joined at the hip? How in the world is the lid being held up?

KlavierBauer
It's quite a monstrous device keeping that lid up.
I couldn't stop looking at it at NAMM.

CindysphinxMan. How lazy do you have to be to need hydraulics to operate your piano lid?
What next? Hydraulic pedals?

13 June 2005, 02:31 PM
rontunerC'mon Cindy, think like a GUY ... it's not about lazy, it's about how COOL can it be made?
Now the pedals, I remeber a thread on pianotech of someone trying to adapt pedal solenoids to work for one of their wheelchair-bound clients. I never heard if they got it working, though there were suggestions for knee-operated pedals and such.

rontunerHey, thanks for posting pictures, it gives me a day off! I remember that 'wiggly' one on the last page - but I wasn't able to find it online. Thanks for putting it here.

EHpianistKathy, it is a Steinway Art Case Piano called Summertime. Looks like a Microsoft screensaver to me.
See other artcases here
Steinway Art Case CollectionI like the inlay of Pear Grove, I think it is beautiful. I wish they had a better picture of Chihuly's Glass lid. Hard to tell what it looks like but I am sure it is impressive to see when opened. I wonder if a glass lid makes the tone too punchy.

I hate to break it to ya, fellas, but that thing looks like a giant speculum.
One that hasn't been pre-warmed.
