Those shoes reminded me of those paper-mache christmas trees we made in third grade, decorated with various kinds of pasted on pasta and spray-painted gold. I found the thing again a few years ago in the attic at my parents house. Seemed some sort of rodents had eaten all that gold macaroni turning it into a mottled gold dunce cap.
