Same here. My record is 30 years without a doughnut. Then I moved four blocks from the best bakery I've ever known (discovered as a child). I had a brief fling when I settled back in here, but quickly developed the old resistance to temptation. I pass within feet of it every day. I just don't go in. (Made much easier by the discovery that I'm a very fine baker in my own right. But laziness is a self-limiting factor there. Fudge lasts and keeps a lot longer. Leaving)

I have about 8 pounds more to lose to be back to pre-pregnancy weight but it just won't come off. I think they are spread evenly between the milk in the boobs and that jiggly part around my midriff. I am walking 45 minutes every day with baby strapped on to me (she now weighs almost 14 lbs) I soooo do NOT want to do situps and leg lifts again. Frowner

Not to mention I went to get a haircut again yesterday and my hair *still* looks awful. I think its consistency changed with the pregnancy. It is a lot stiffer. Trying to grow it out but I think with what it has become, short is going to be the only way to go.

PS- Kathy, Jodi et al, I'm REALLY impressed. (well, maybe except Doug Big Grin)

My mother said that happened. She also blames pregnancy, and the aftermath, for being snow white at 35. Thinking ahead, how will you look as a blonde? Smiler

I've heard of it happening. It seems like you boys are especially good at transforming your mothers. The Argentinian nanny who watches La Chiquita when I'm rehearsing says that after 3 girls without any trouble, it was the final boy who turned her mother's hair white and destroyed her energy levels.

Today during my daily stroll with La Chiquita I stopped in a book store and browsed through the motherhood section. There was a book called Pilates with Your Baby which looked like exactly what I need. I browsed through it and looked at the pictures and tried a few of the excercises with her today. She had fun and I definitely felt them! I think I'll go back and buy it. Anyone here do pilates? They remind me of the excercises they used to have us do evey day at ballet.

I do, Elena. I started about six months ago and it's made a big difference in my strength, balance and tone. I try to make three classes a week at the Y. I really need the classes, because the force of the peer pressure pushes me beyond what I'd do on my own. And you're right about the ballet connection. I have done some with Puffin who's been taking ballet since she was three, and she's commented that a lot of the moves are things they do in class. There are also similarities to yoga; particularly the emphases on breathing and stretching/lengthening.

Day 38 163.5

Finally a downward trend again? We'll see if it lasts. I broke down and started counting calories yesterday. I've been stuck for almost 3 weeks, eating extremely healthily, exercising a LOT, but my body seemed to have reset itself, and wasn't willing to budge. This is really frustrating! Here's my chart so far:

I don't know, Jodi. If you take into consideration that healthy, stable weight loss ocurrs at the rate of about a pound a week I would say you are right on track and that your body is definitely recuperating from the first three weeks (meaning readjusting). Your high rate of loss the first few weeks was kind of scary to me!!! I'd be surprised if your body can dump so much so quickly again so don't be discouraged if it now slows down to one pound a week. You're still losing, and it won't be such a shock to your system.

By the way, I love your photo tracker. What a great idea! Your weight loss is definitely noticeable!!!

OK. This week I resolve to get off the sugar roller coaster ride. I have become such a sugar addict while breastfeeding. I find myself craving it all the time, I will eat a bowl of super-sweet granola and after I'm done I just want more so I'll serve myself another bowl, then I go into the Lindt chocolate bar... I can't keep anything sweet in the house without my consuming it within two days of purchasing it! I think I am turning myself into a hypoglycemic as I find I get "high" when I eat sugary things only to be followed by a crash a couple of hours later where I am furiously craving more sugar. This is the road to diabetes, I know.

So no more sugary stuff in the house. Problem is that I am a snacker more than a meal eater, and it is hard finding cheap, healthy, filling snack food when I have to stay away from dairy due to nursing (yogurt used to be my all-the-time snack). Nuts are too expensive to be eating all day. Any suggestions?

What has worked for me is nuts (lots of them!) and fruit. Yesterday I was practically gorging on lightly roasted mixed nuts and clementines - every bit as delicious as sugary sweets, and after one gorging session, I'm good for the next few hours because of the balance of protein, carbs and fiber.

Jodi, what Elena says. You're doing great. The rule of thumb is no more than two pounds a week. If it's more than that, you're losing muscle and organ mass.

I could never weigh myself every day like you do because the little inevitable upward spikess would drive me nuts.

As one who has had the honor of meeting Jodi and actually giving her a hug,I can tell you that she is looking terrific!

I will get some but I need something else to be my filler-upper as well because nuts are pretty expensive in Spain. Any other ideas?

The pears are lovely now, though not very filling.

Wasa Crispbread Hearty rye crackers - they are not terribly caloric, (rye has a low glycemic index) and a small amount of light cheese and some smoked salmon (lox) on them make a very satisfying snack. Veggies and some hummus are nice too. An apple with a little bit of peanut butter. You have to be a little careful with the nuts, they are very high in calories.

Hi Jodi, they all sound delicious. The only one I can really try is veggies and hummus (I have to learn to make my own as in Spain they dont sell it in the supermarkets). I try not to eat bread as I am slightly allergic to glutens, I can't eat dairy while breastfeeding and they don't sell peanut butter in Spain.

Now, if you were to spread pork fat on all of the above, that would be easy to find here... Big Grin
