LLwtf fifth anniversary reunion, may 29 - may 31, 2010
Best to leave it as it is, and then have another get together earlier or later for those of us that can get together at another time.
I have something that can be suggested. Will post on that later.

I dont know if Rich or anyone else has already scheduled activities that would make that a bad idea.
I plan to attend whenever, but I know there were at least a couple people - LL and PJ, off the top of my head - who couldn't or probably couldn't make MD weekend. Pique said she could make the weekend of April 15. So, if Rich is available that weekend, maybe we should do a poll running off those two weekends.
For now, at least, could you paste you(& JF, I presume) on the list? I think it would be helpful to get a sense of just who's going at this point.

piquéhi, just stopping by. i am rarely online these days.
i am in nyc april 6-11, then in ohio for a couple of days doing an event for OSU (joint music school and creative writing department reading/talk) in columbus.
then home in mt for the first time since feb. 9, so i'm definitely not available on april 15!
i'm not able to commit to MD at the moment. too many unknown factors right now, but hope to make it.

Dude, you know the rules: copy and paste yourself in, just like everybody else.
Just like a tenor, thinking he's special....

big alHave you firmed up any dates, times, and locations for the prospective events you are organinzing, Rich? I'd like to begin making a few plans. Also, is there any particular hotel or area that you would recommend for lodging to make things relatively convenient both for WTF activities and other sightseeing in Philadelphia?

I'll be there, I just haven't been following the thread.
18 March 2010, 02:10 PM
rich galassiniWell, I have committments from some pretty heavy hitters, namely Hugh Sung and Dr. Indrek Laul. Indrek will perform and chat, Hugh Sung will lead us in a "piano tasting". This is where we line up 4 to 6 different instruments and we discuss the color differences, how the piano reacts to the artist, etc.
Here is an example of this program that ran on NPR:
Piano Taste Test at Cunningham Piano CompanyThere is also the possibility of a "Meet The Masters" presentation with Q&A. This would be a small panel of piano builders, some from the Steinway factory, a couple of action men, a Bosie tech., etc. This could be the most interesting seminar of the group.
There is also Philly! Museums, cheesesteaks, concerts, parks, a plethora of opportunities.
FTP and I were chatting about reserving a block of rooms at a hotel. Thoughts??
22 March 2010, 04:29 PM
big alA block of rooms would be all right with me or simply a suggestion of a recommended hotel or location so I could make my own reservation. Do we have a definite day/time for any of the events you and FTP are planning, Rich?
I also wonder when the other prospective attentdees will commit to being there. When we conducted the the survey, we had 20 "Yes" responses for "I can attend Memorial Day weekend". Maybe it should have been worded "I will attend" based on the list so far.
I'm inserting/editing the list again to keep it current (and perhaps encourage a few more commitments - hint, hint). After all, this is only a little more than 2 months away now and we only do it once every 5 years. We shouldn't leave our hosts hanging indefinitely.

piqabooCapogiro Gelato, I am informed, should be a frequent addition to the activities list. Except possibly for the ?Passyunk Ave? location.

RealPlayerHey, I know we'll have Cunningham's, Indrek Laul and Hugh Sung, but do you know the REAL drawing card for going to Philly?
What
INCREDIBLY FAMOUS PIANIST lives there?

Dude, you're in Staten Island...

RealPlayerNot sure of your meaning, but I was referring to Nora, the piano-playing cat, who (with her owner) actually does live in Philly.

RealPlayerIf there's anyone else in our crew who is into classic bicycles, you might want to know there's a bike shop full of them in Philly. I know I plan to steal some time from piano activities to grab a look.
Here's a slideshow of pics from someone who visited there recently. They are kind of dark, but fun to look at anyway.
