Big Johnwtf fifth anniversary reunion, may 29 - may 31, 2010
I don't drink. I got cured of all that by having a CDL. First-time DUI is mandatory one-year suspension and $10,000 fine. These days I just get drunk on life. You'll see. . .

RealPlayerDo we have any sort of schedule? Are most of the activities taking place on Saturday?
Thinking about spending just one overnight at the hotel (Fri. or Sat.) Which should it be? I expect to travel via Amtrak, so there are many options for return times.
But I could still do two nights, depending on what we're all up to.

LisaI need to know the schedule as well -- trying to line up babysitters and schedule around the other requisite family activities that come along with a holiday weekend. Right now, I'm figuring on spending Saturday during the day with you guys but am wondering if there are plans for Fri/Sat evening or anything going on on Sunday.

Big JohnSince I am only going to be there Saturday, I think Rich said something about an evening event on Saturday. I was figuring it would be like a cruise: you have the day to shop and explore and dicker with the native artisans for better prices on their trinkets and then everyone has to be on board by say, 1800 hours so the ship can set sail (tranlsation par-tay time).
I love a soiree!!!

More bummed out than ever now. Rich will fill you in as to why.

rich galassiniOK guys,
The only planned stuff that I have is Saturday, beginning around 1 pm. We chat, we socialize.
Indrek Laul will be here. He will begin around 2. He will play, accomany, chat, and talk about the history of the region of Estonia and why the piano enjoys such a wonderful reputation.
Then - Hugh Sung will do a lecture on piano technology - He will then be joined by Indrek (and Joe Kubera and anyone else who wishes) and present a "piano tasting".
More chatting!
Le Busbakery will cater the event and serve refreshments (no alcohol - unless we go buy some) around 5 and we'll go until ??.
Sunday - that is wide open - Museum of Art, Parks, sight seeing, whatever we determine we want is what we will do.

big alSounds great, Rich. See you Saturday afternoon.

Piano AgainWe'll be there, probably not until 2 or 3, though. I have a rehearsal at 10 that morning that I can't skip (last one before dress of Milhaud's Creation of the World).

Big JohnI can show people how to break down a piano and then set it up again!!!
Do you have an M&H soundboard fragment with the tuning fork that shows the added resonance when you bend the wood? That one is killer.
So is the music box on the soundboard trick. I may have one laying around.
I was thinking of showing everyone how to write their own Bach-like two-voice counterpoint.
Or maybe not!

Sounds like fun!

I'm staying just Saturday myself, assuming we'll go out Saturday night. Sunday Im visiting the inlaws nearby so won't be joining any festivities, unless people want to meet for breakfast.

RealPlayerThanks for the update, Rich. Looks like Sat. is the main day, so I'll make my arrangements now, planning for that...maybe stay part of the day Sunday. I'm only 2 hrs. or so away by train, and there are lots of trains.
As for playing, myself, I'm a bit stumped. I'm working on stuff, but prepared to play something is another question! Let me root around in my sheet music and see what happens.

Big JohnMy high school prom date and sweetheart all the way from Junior High and i haven't seen each other since high school. We were thinking of having a reunion at the party. She lives in DC and wants to drive up. Does anyone have a problem with that?

How could anyone have a problem with that John?
By the way, I will have several customers who want to meet Dr. Laul attending part of the program (and hopefully buy pianos) so if given an opportunity, sell a piano!

I am also thinking about having nametags. Good idea?
