Stampede broke out at a religious gathering in Meron, Israel

It’s supposed to be a celebration, but ended up a tragedy with 44 dead and over 150 injured.

The only other modern day religious gathering that led to a lethal stampede that I can think of is the Hajj.

Politicians pressed NOT to limit event


... religious politicians.

I suspect they will be running away from, or trying to redirect, all possible blame, and do it as fast as their little hypocrite legs will carry them.

The Health Ministry recommended limiting the event to 9,000, but they had 100,000 ultimately in attendance? Jeez.

The stranglehold the ultra-orthodox have over politicians in Israel remains astounding to me. There are definite parallels in my eyes between the religious right/Netanyahu in Israel and the evangelicals/Trump in the USA.

The Trumpers want what they say the founding fathers wanted until we get to separation of church and state.
