This coming Monday, Elena's good friend (and mine) is playing a contemporary piano program at Le Poisson Rouge in the W. Village. Link here:

Heather at LPR

Heather lives in Berlin, so it's a rare chance to hear her on these shores.

Go go go!! Heather is about as fine an artist, pianist and human being as you will meet.

Even if you hate contemporary music, she will probably get you to enjoy it, if not love it.

Man, I'd love to see her but I have to head back to London on Tuesday morning (and I just returned from there Friday). So Monday night I really need to come home.

Went to the concert. She was terrific -- virtuosic, assured, powerful, nuanced, lyrical, the whole package. I didn't know any of the pieces by the German composers Zimmermann and Schneller, so that was an education for me. There was also one of the quarter-tone Ives pieces (second piano on recording). The theme of her concert was the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago to the day.

If you get to hear her in Boston or Philly, you owe it to yourself. She is also playing Schumann at those venues.

There was a (very young) student ensemble that performed a few pieces as a warm-up. They sounded like a student ensemble.
