My PT's annual holiday recital potluck is coming up in a few weeks.

Any ideas for something to bring? Finger-friendly is good. Or at least not too sloppy.

For 'they' to bring to you? or you to bring to them?

Do you have a theme? Sometimes a theme has guests get creative.

Just apps? Just desserts? Whole shabang?

My piano teacher has about a dozen adult students. I think three of us are piano students and the rest are harpists. She has big recital-y recitals for the kids, but for the adults, we have a potluck which is situated in the other end of the house from the pianos and harps. One at a time, a student sets down his or her plate and slips off to play his or her "recital" piece. So it's a potluck dinner with the guests playing background music. It's really nice because you don't have everyone staring at you while you are trying to play -- the performance anxiety is reduced.

So, I need to think of something to bring.

Last time I made a curried potato salad that was a big hit. I'm trying to come up with something new and different this time.

I once concocted an Asian take-off on coleslaw -- it had a whole jar of furikake on it.

thefishdude makes a really nice curried waldorf salad. It's an embellishment on an Alton Brown recipe. You can include chicken, or not. He put in blackberries instead of grapes once and that was also a big hit. No toothpicks, though. Razzer

I was trying to find that picture of the skewers of shrimp that Ermo made with the curry powder someone sent him from Market Spice.

They looked very yummy.

Finger-friendly is, IMO, kind of limiting, but a nice idea.

I'm thinking about our neighborhood group's Thanksgiving potluck, also coming up next weekend. Members bring big baking dishes of stuff, and plates and tableware are provided.

I usually bring a lentil salad or pasta dish. I'm not that creative unless I'm cooking at home for guests.

I'd echo Steve that you can't miss with shrimp something---with a toothpick for class.
