Ok, so to add to my list of health issues running up to my big birthday..
A bump on my lip has come back positive for basal cell skin cancer. I am scheduled for a "Mohs" procedure on Dec 1. But I don't know a thing about it...Anyone had it before....After it is done am I going to look like I am snarling all the time? Anyone had this done?

DON'T PANIC!! Skin cancer is quite common here, and I've known oodles of people, including my dad, who've had to have thingies removed very successfully using the Mose procedure. For early skin cancer--like yours--it is the state of the art thing to do.
I'm not sure of all the details, but one of the key differences with the Mose procedure is that they remove the growth and analyze it right then and there to make sure they have all of it. So when you leave for the day, you can be sure that they've removed everything. It's all done under local anaesthesia. The analysis part can take a bit of time, so you should bring something to do while that is occurring. |

Oh--for the snarl, I'm not sure. My dad's stuff was on his nose/upper lip area. He doesn't look snarly.

I have no useful information to share, but I will be keeping you in my thoughts.

Like Nina said, don't panic. My mother and both sisters have had things removed for the same reason (remember, we lived in So. California, before there was sunscreen).
My mom had what sounds like this procedure done for something on her nose. Successful, and the only real downside was that it did take some time.

Oh, man! You did not need this, either physically or as a worry.
I'm sure you'll be fine, but I'll keep you in my thoughts anyway. |

Sorry you are going through this.
I know people who have had numerous Basal cell carcinomas removed. The process bothered them for a few days, but that fades. Basal cell carcinoma is a very slow growing cancer.

BeeLady,
I will just echo what others have said. You will be fine. But you will be in my prayers for a successful procedure.

I'm sure you'll be fine, keep thinking postively.
We get a lot of sun here too and I know several people who've had cancerous "things" removed and they're just fine. One friend I'm thinking of in particular had probably 20 moles and suspicious areas removed from his back. He was at the gym on day after having several removed and someone asked him what had happened to him. He said, "I was in a heck of a knife fight!"

Ugh. Hope it turns out to be completely removable/curable. Scarey though.

And best thoughts ![]() are coming your way. I know it must be scary on several levels and I wish I could make it go away for you. Sister had problems on her nose. IT is cured after the removal and she is now more careful outside - hats, sunscreens etc. There was a scare for almost a year but now no one can tell. I mention this just in case no one has warned you which would be more scary (I think). Let us know how you are doing, and how you are feeling, BL. We care.

Actually, I am not really scared about it...both my parents have had it done. And both my parents and my sister said the same thing.."Gosh, and you aren't even a sun worshiper either!"
I guess I am curious about the procedure, how long it might take (got the paperwork today and they say several hours! And what the outcome will be since this is right on my upper lip line. I'm thinking this might mean that I won't get those wrinkles there till much later....on that side anyway.
