Everyone I know who has had a new knee put in has told me that recovery was uncomfortable for a few weeks and they still wish they had ThumbsUp done it years earlier.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I'll be thinking healing thoughts.

Many years ago I was having a lot of trouble with one knee. Three different orthopedists told me I was way too young to have it replaced. It's functional now... but someday...

Good luck!

It helped me a lot to focus on the path ahead; prior to surgery, I knew that I was in a declining mode of activity. After surgery, I kept firmly in mind that no matter whatever I was feeling in healing and rehab, I was on the path to full use and stability.

I did too much the first couple of days at home and suffered with swelling and discomfort...

All good things to keep in mind. May I recruit you for pep talks from time to time? Everyone--including the surgeon--warns me that after the first week I'll be questioning why I did this and will be convinced the surgery was a failure.

Absolutely!

Bon knee voyage, pique!

Yes, to all comments plus a suggestion. If you've got any practice in meditation (separating yourself from the "pain body", etc.) now's the time to use it. I found Lamaze breathing to be very helpful in the recovery (and many others), but I doubt you've learned it.

Falling down in the hospital within 24 hours of the surgery owing to negligent nurses didn't help the quality of the healing but I'm sure you won't have to deal with that!

A difficult time to practice ... trust.

Believe in your team. Believe in your body to heal. Believe in your strength to endure discomfort and awkwardness.

You might get a nerve block which could make it pretty painless right away. Watch out for narcotic pain meds - many people have trouble with constipation that causes more discomfort than the surgery!

No one on this forum doubts your ability to "tough it out" and come out of this ready to dance.
