I had one jar and mistakenly believed that, since it was made from chilies, it didn’t need refrigeration. Wrong. It spoiled. So I need another jar, but I may try a different brand. There are a number of them out there, and tasting reviews.

I'd like to get a jar for each of my sons but there are so many kinds on Amazon I don't know what to choose.

Suggestions? (The crispy sound kind of appealing but they may not be...)

Thank you!

Amanda, just do a search on “Chile crisp reviews.” You’ll find lots of review sites with tasting descriptions of different brands.

I thought the whole point was to get one of Tao Huabi's brand - that she'd concocted something utterly unique. Confused

I'm confused now, though, because I see she has different varieties on Amazon. Which the original or at least most popular? (It would probably be easier to tell them apart if I could read Chinese!)

I've had what I think is Trader Joe's version of the Lao Gam Ma product.

https://www.traderjoes.com/hom...y-chili-onion-062480

It was not as spicy as I thought it might be, but it was quite flavorful. I found myself using it in all kinds of dishes and on sandwiches. I did draw the line at ice cream, though. Big Grin I'll have to check out some of our local grocery stores for Lao Gam Ma and do a comparison.

(aside) Has anyone besides me had problems with food products in jars ordered from Amazon? Seems that many food products are listed as non-returnable. I love Wilkin & Sons black currant preserves and have ordered them from Amazon. The last batch came with the lids dented and the seal popped. I didn't think the no return policy would include items damaged during shipping, but it does. I had to cajole Amazon into giving me a refund but they pretty much said they wouldn't do it again. Caveat emptor.
