Faux "News", entertaining just like always... The viewers are the product that they sell!

The audience is protesting. She starts dancing. I think it's unprofessional, immature, and bizarre behavior.

I don't care if FOX News filmed it. I'm glad someone did.

"Rude" she says? A nuclear war would be, "nice?"

She did oust the number 4 Democrat in the House, talked a good game of, "democratic socialist" politics, continues to irritate with her constant word salad, and by licking the Democratic establishment's boots.

This is contrary to how she sold herself in the beginning. She's a fraud.

I would bet it isn't the audience protesting, but the "guests" - those there to cause trouble in any way possible.

American political theater sold to a public hungry for entertainment.

I think it's a clever and original way to mock those who simply came to protest rather than seriously interact.

I think people should protest war. I also think those who believed AOC's campaign promise she was going to hold the Democratic party accountable [for anything] have nothing to show for it.

Very ironically put. You could just as easily use that sentence to describe the protesters, given that AOC went to congress to use it as a platform for her own career rather than to meaningfully interact. (A model that is increasing true of both parties)

Yes. I never supported her and maintain she makes a spectacle of herself.

She’s definitely not the only one.

Yuval Levin has written extensively on the trend of using institutions as a platform.

Sample here:

quote:
We now think of institutions less as formative and more as performative, less as molds of our character and behavior, and more as platforms for us to stand on and be seen. And so for one arena to another in American life, we see people using institutions as stages, as a way to raise their profile or build their brand. And those kinds of institutions become much harder to trust. ...

Politics is an easy example. So, think about Congress. Congress can be a very formative institution. It produces a kind of human person, a man or woman who is a member of Congress. But now Congress is very much a performative institution. Members think of it as a way to raise their profile, to get a better timeslot on cable news or talk radio or a bigger Twitter following. And they use Congress as a platform from which to comment on the culture, to comment on politics, to comment on Congress, rather than using the institution as a way to shape themselves to become more effective in our politics.

What Jon said, or quoted rather.

Should we call it the Instagramization of public life? I don't know, but I find it distressing, really.

The Squad

... thinks we should be pressuring Ukraine to give up 15% of its territory, while it's on a roll recapturing stuff.

Odd bedfellows with the far right who are making the same noises.

From the cited Jerusalem Post article...
quote:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, perhaps the most recognized member of “The Squad,” was criticized by protesters at a scheduled speech in October for “supporting” the war, as they accused her of not advocating hard enough for an end to the war.

Hard to satisfy everyone.
