I was on a flight that had three sudden HUGE drops in altitude midflight.

The pilot came on a bit later (as we were gradually recovering our blood pressure) and said the total loss of altitude was something like 20 feet, over all 3 drops. So yeah, I guess not so huge, but very scary at the time. This is one of the main reasons I take Xanax before I fly longer distances. Better living through chemistry! (tm)

The diameter of a 737 is 10 feet.

Please keep your seatbelt fastened when you are in your seat. And keep one hand on something (the backs of seats, the overhead bins (some airplanes have a nice grab bar along the bins), and so forth when you are standing or walking.
